Penrith seniors have been recognised for their contributions to the community during a local celebration of Seniors Week.
This year’s theme, “Live Life in Colour,” highlights the richness, experience and vibrancy that older residents bring to community life. The event provided an opportunity to acknowledge the important role seniors play in shaping the caring and resilient community Penrith is today.
As part of the celebration, the Penrith Local Senior of the Year Award for 2026 was announced, recognising an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to the local community.
Several strong nominations were received this year, with each nominee recognised for their generosity, leadership and dedication to helping others. The 2026 nominees were Perce Denton, June Hewett, Gill Enterkin and Ian Joliffe, all of whom were congratulated for their significant contributions to the Penrith community.
Following consideration of the nominations, Perce Denton was named Penrith Local Senior of the Year for 2026.
Mr Denton was recognised for his exceptional dedication and lasting impact for the local community. He served as a volunteer fire fighter for most of his life. His ongoing service and commitment to supporting others have made a meaningful difference to the lives of many people in Penrith.
The announcement formed part of the broader Seniors Week celebrations, which honour the valuable role seniors continue to play in strengthening communities across New South Wales.
Member for Penrith, Karen McKeown OAM MP said:
“Seniors Week is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible contributions older residents make to our Penrith community every day.”
“I would like to congratulate all of this year’s nominees for the Local Senior of the Year Award. Each of them represents the very best of our community.”
