Students from Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School have created a mural that is now proudly installed in the new pedestrian underpass next to the Emu Plains Commuter Car Park.
The mural is the final piece of the Emu Plains Commuter Car Park project, located between the recently completed Rhys Walker Memorial Pathway and the railway station. It complements the ‘Buru’, a cast bronze sculpture acknowledging Country.
Created by Year 9 and 10 visual arts students, the mural reflects the interconnectivity between the nearby Blue Mountains, Nepean River, and the Emu Plains Station.
The mural has been designed to stimulate the public to connect between nature and the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The project named 'Transport Art’, was led by the Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School under the guidance of professional mural artist Scott Nagy and involved more than 60 students who created the artwork over three school terms.
Students, the school, and Transport for NSW have worked closely together to deliver a piece of art to be enjoyed by the public for years to come.
The ‘Transport Art’ project involved students from the school’s ‘Skill Me Up Program’ which is aimed to build skillset for those who aspire to work in trades. This joint achievement has led Nepean High to be selected as one of five winning schools in the Department of Education’s Schools Shout Out’ competition.
