State News 15 October 2024

15 October 2024

Throughout September and October, I welcomed many of our Ministers to Penrith, including the NSW Premier.

NSW Premier, Chris Minns MP - Member for Kogarah attended Penrith Whitewater Stadium for the announcement of the naming of an island in Penrith Whitewater Stadium after Australian Olympic royalty – the Fox family.

We kicked off Small Business month in style when the Hon. Steve Kamper MP, Minister for Small Business joined us as a guest speaker at the Small Business Breakfast hosted by Penrith CBD Corporation. NSW Small Business Month is a month-long program that runs throughout October. The program recognises small businesses across New South Wales, providing events aligned with their business interests. Thank you to Penrith CBD Corporation, sponsors, Minister Kamper, and everyone who attended this successful event.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads to Penrith for a bus forum. The Minister arrived well prepared to offer her full support for our Pink Up Penrith month. Pink Up Penrith now in its 7th year turns the whole city PINK during October to celebrate and raise awareness about the fantastic work achieved by the McGrath Foundation. Thank you, Jenny Aitchison, for supporting our community event.

Thank you to the Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP, Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading and Minister for Industry and Trade, who attended the ASEAN Market Update for NSW Businesses which was held in Penrith.

It has been a privilege to host so many Ministers and the Premier in Penrith and to further showcase our city and provide businesses with the opportunity to speak to the Ministers.

This past month has been filled with many events. I have been honoured to speak to so many people and see our community band together for such significant initiatives.

Thank you to Gai Hawthorn and Penrith CBD Corporation for throwing a beautiful Pink Up Penrith High Tea to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.

Awarded Nepean CAPA student Jenna Galea with the Karen McKeown Role Model Award and celebrated the remarkable milestone of Nepean Creative & Performing Arts High School students completing 13 years of schooling.

I was honoured to present Penrith local Elissa Simmonds with the Rotary Inspirational Young Women’s Award 2024.

We held mobile offices at Penrith Markets and Cranebrook shops, had early starts at Kingswood and Emu Plains stations to talk to commuters about the train timetable change coming into effect October 20.

It was a special day when Penrith Panthers made us proud by bringing home the FOUR-PEAT.

Penrith’s train timetable is about to get much simpler and more reliant as NSW experiences its first major timetable adjustment to Sydney’s train network since 2017. The new network will add more than 800 new services a week which will kick in on Sunday, 20 October 2024.

These adjustments to the timetable are being made so that train services are more reliable and so that passengers have shorter wait times, faster journeys and so the network can quickly recover when disruption occurs.

Commuter travel patterns have changed significantly following the COVID pandemic and the opening of Sydney Metro, and while in some instances, services to particular train stations will shift from peak times to inter-peak times, this is to accommodate for changing travel patterns at these stations.

Stopping patterns on the T1 Western Line – covering Emu Plains and East Richmond to Central Station – will be simplified to improve reliability and increase train services for some stations west of Parramatta. Some services for some stations west of Parramatta have been moved from the earlier AM peak to operate between 9am and 10am to provide passengers with more travel options outside the busiest time.

The Blue Mountains Services will remain unchanged, however train times may change.

It is important to visit Trip Planner at transportnsw.info to be up to date with any time changes.
